What Every Consumer Should Know About
Giving Gift Cards This Holiday Season...

January 1, 2010

It's likely you'll be giving or receiving at least one gift card over the holidays this year.  But be careful: Many gift cards come with hidden fees, declining balances over time (even when not used!), and some have expiration dates.  You can read about how to get the most for your money with Gift Cards in today's South Florida Living!  Free consumer newsletter.

You'll also learn how to complain effectively if youve received bad service, credit card changes that will protect your teenager or college student in 2010, and what you should know about the H1N1 flu -- plus funny jokes, trivia, and lots more.   But first....

Here's what's happening in our neighborhood.  We have seen increased activity in the real estate market during the past few months.  The $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit and the $6,500 tax credit for existing homeowners who are buying a new home has affected the market.  Potential buyers shouldn't wait.  With a strong buyers market, combined with nearly all-time low mortgage rates, now's the time to get a great deal on your dream home.

During the holidays we have had the privilege of spending time with long time friends from Alaska.  Two of our friends have been on their Swan sail boat in Lake Worth and are now heading to Hope Sound to leave the boat for a time while they go back to Alaska and do tax returns for all their clients.  We don't envy them returning to Alaska at this time of the year.  Burrrrrr...  How fortunate we are!

Finally, we want you to know that you may call us for any reason.  And please let us know if a friend, family member or neighbor needs a caring, competent real estate professional to help in buying or selling.

We truly appreciate your friendship and referrals.  Enjoy your issue!

Warmest regards,

Jim and Ruth Jacobs
